"Everything Happens for a Reason"
Honestly, I hate that saying. I know it's true and everything - trust me, I know that. In fact, there might not be a more true statement out there. But usually, when you hear it, it's about the last thing in the world you want to hear.
This morning I got a phone call at 6am. It was from my folks' house, so right away I knew something must be up. My mom told me that my Grandma fell down in the middle of the night and had to go to the hospital. She had messed up her back, and the doctors also found out she had been fighting pneumonia for awhile. My grandma's been fighting a cold for 2-3 weeks now, so either the cold disguised the pneumonia or the "cold" was actually pneumonia. Either way, my grandma is one of those people that, even in her old age, won't admit something is wrong with her until she's really in awful shape. She had been dismissing all these "cold" symptoms now for some time and not putting any thought to them, because colds always go away. Not a big deal.
So I did a little research on pneumonia. Certain types can actually become deadly; especially to an 88 year old woman who doesn't have a great immune system. I kind of knew this to an extent, and my first thought after getting off the phone with my mom was, "Man, this could turn out to be really, really bad. My grandma fell down, isn't in good shape, and also now has pneumonia." BUT...then I got to thinking. What if she wouldn't have fallen down? What would have come of the pneumonia that she had no idea she had?
I'm really grateful that she fell down. Sounds weird. But knowing her, she probably would have gotten really sick otherwise before she would have realized she had something wrong with her. Everything happens for a reason.
